Oh great, I’m over thinking again.

In the past I’ve written several blog posts about Dyspraxia. At age 26, I found out that I had Dyspraxia, aka, Developmental Coordination Disorder. DCD is defined as a lifelong neurological disorder, which may be genetic. Dyspraxia primarily affects motor function; a persons ability to speak, eat and move. Roughly between 2 and 10 percent of the population has dyspraxia. In the United States Dyspraxia is severely under-diagnosed or in a lot of cases misdiagnosed with ADHD, Autism, etc.

Often times one of the hardest things for me is thinking quickly off the spot. For instance, if I’m at a party or with a group of people and we get into a heated topic, holding it doesn’t help.

For instance, in high school and college I remember during every discussion where the class was forced to go around and say something one by one, I would zone out and stress because I was already trying to form what I wanted to say when it got to my turn, so I wouldn’t be paying attention to what my classmates were saying.

For someone without Dyspraxia, they might find it easy to plan and organize their thoughts. But, for someone with Dyspraxia, they might find it strangely difficult to organize and plan their thoughts out.

Often times what may end up happening is that what they were thinking and wanted to say, didn’t come out the way they wanted it to.

This often leads to stressing and overthinking.

For me, I find it easier to socialize with smaller groups of people rather than larger groups. In larger groups, I tend to get nervous and overthink more about what to say, so I often come across as the shy or quiet one. In smaller groups, I tend to find that it’s easier to be myself.

However, these days everyone overthinks, gets stressed and has anxiety. We get a speeding ticket, and we get worried and anxiety attacks. We spill a drink, and get upset and stressed that the stain will never come out. We get worried that we might bump into something or someone. There’s always something that you’ll be stressed or worried about.

Just be yourself.

What helps is to put yourself in situations that you feel the most comfortable in. This way, you can practice and not feel as much pressure. Another helpful thing is getting involved in activities and hobbies that you feel comfortable with. Meeting like minded people can help relax you and make you feel a little bit more at ease.

Another outlet may be writing. I’ve found that it’s easier for me to write my thoughts out rather than speak them at times.

As a Christian something that I keep in the back of my mind is, Matthew 6:25-34. Particularly, Matthew 6:26-27 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 

What can you gain from stressing?
At some point you just have to realize that you can’t control everything. You don’t have all the answers. Just be yourself and know where your worth comes from.

God is control. 

How Are You Using Your Words?

Words.

Sometimes we forget just how much power and weight the words we speak aloud hold.

We get into arguments, and say the wrong thing with our words.
We use our words to spread gossip about people.
We use our words to pray for others.
We use our words to thank family or friends.
We use our words to express love.
We use our words to comfort someone in a time of need.
We use our words to tell jokes to provide others with laughter.
We use our words to lie – whether it’s a “little” lie or a “big” lie.

Yes, the words we speak hold extreme power – the power of life and death.

The power of build up or tear down.
The power to bring together or to separate.
The power to provide peace or stress.

The Bible tells us in Genesis that God used HIS words to speak creation into existence. He used HIS words to speak life into this world. Meanwhile, Satan used his words to speak lies and death into existence.

Sometimes when we get frustrated, angry, or upset it’s easy for us to say the wrong thing.
Sometimes when we find ourselves in trouble or in the wrong place at the wrong time, we may use our words to try to lie to get out of trouble.
Sometimes when we hear news that we know may not be true but sounds juicy, we use those words for gossip.

 

How are you using your words?
Are you using your words to build up and encourage others? Or to tear down and discourage others?
Are your words full of life or death?

Be careful with the words you speak, they hold such enormous weight.
If you are ever upset, angry, or frustrated it’s okay to take a deep breath, or maybe even walk away from the situation or take awhile to answer that text.

 

 

Adventures of lavender fields and coffee.

Today I went on a road trip with a good friend of mine. Went opted to go to Delaware, moreover because I have never been and one of my goals this year is to visit new states when I can.

Off we go to Delaware and within 15 minutes we stop for lunch because we are starving. Didn’t get that far, did we? lol gotta love road trips. I don’t know about you guys, but I just LOVE Chick-fil-a over most fast food places. They just came out with a new sandwich so of course I had to try it. Show of hands, whose tried that barbecue bacon chicken sandwich with the new watermelon mint lemonade? I promise you won’t regret it. Eating it made me feel as though I was sitting at a picnic eating chicken right off the grill. Perfect meal for the summer(you know, for fast food).

So we get back on the road and fight traffic here and there. Eventually we get to the Lavender farm- Lavender Fields at Warrington Manor. The flowers weren’t in full bloom yet, but they were still magnificent. And who knew that there were so many different kinds of lavender?

I even got to do a short little meditation in the midst of all that lavender and the fresh air.


After buying a few Lavender products we headed back home. On the way we stopped at a coffee roastery that was inside of a local art and antique gallery-anything from essential oil diffuser necklaces, to antique clocks, to Christian yoga t-shirts, to comics. After looking around and buying a few things I tried a coffee drink I’ve never tried before-affogato(ice cream and coffee).


After awhile we once again headed on our way home, this time not stopping anywhere else which was surprising knowing how ADHD we get.

From today I learned three things I want to share.

  1. Don’t get frustrated with small things: Traffic stinks no matter where you are. You get stuck behind a person going 30 miles in a 50 zone, or maybe that guy behind you is WAYYY too close to your bumper. I get it, I do. But, get upset and frustrated doesn’t help anything. Play some music, talk to God, or play a game in the car. Take a deep breathe and relax. Everyone else is probably just as frustrated as you are.
  2. You can find beauty in the simplest of things: Walk outside and find beauty in the sunrise and sunset. Find beauty in that field of lavender that is not fully bloomed yet but is still magnificent. Find beauty in each person you come across. Find different ways to see beauty  and embrace it.
  3. Live Jesus through your life: You don’t have to be a Pastor or minister to preach the Word of God. The coffee shop we went to today-Amity Coffee Roasters. They sold beautiful necklaces and bracelets that had simple messages about God and Christ. The space they share with the art gallery? Well the art gallery sold clothing like yoga shirts that went “Free. John 8:36”. They sold wall art with inspirational quotes and God. If you love coffee, then open a coffee shop and serve people and show them the love of Christ through your life. If you want to be a teacher, shoe Jesus through your life. Show Christ through your words and actions. Be an example of the love of Christ. Use your gifts and passions to reach people.

You are so much more than that “label”

Admit it.

We’ve all been labeled or labeled someone at some point…… Whether it’s by our physical appearance, or religious affiliation, or our skin color. Here are some examples of labels:

  1. too skinny, too fat,
  2. too emotional, depressed, talks too fast, quiet, shy
  3. geek, nerd, smart, stupid, idiot, retard, jock, hipster
  4. woman, man
  5. straight, gay,
  6. liberal, conservative, democrat, republican
  7. christian, muslim, catholic
  8. black, white, purple, green, etc

In some way or another society has given us labels. Friends, can we stop?

When we label others, we are giving them a title. we are isolating them and excluding them. when we label others, we are not seeing them as they were made in christ.

Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

God has created each one of us. He has given us immense value in that we are created in HIS image. When we use those labels as insults, or in a way that prevents us from seeing other people as being created in the image of God it becomes a problem.

Instead of seeing each other through the lenses of labels given to us by society, how about we start appreciating and praising the wonder things about one another? Let us not allow the labels to prevent us from loving on others. Let us not be so blinded by these labels that we forget to view each other as being created by the same God we were.

Let’s all spread a little more joy, peace and love and stop with the labels.
